01 / Executive operating leadership

Operating leadership for the work your CEO needs off their desk

A growing business can reach a point where the founder is still coordinating the people, resolving the handoffs and following up on every important commitment.

I can join your leadership team to own a defined operating or commercial mandate. The role may be a fractional COO, an interim operating executive, a commercial operations leader or a strategic operating partner to the CEO. We agree the responsibility and engagement structure before choosing the title.

What I can take responsibility for

  • Turning leadership priorities into an operating plan with owners and deadlines.
  • Running the management rhythm and resolving cross-functional blockers.
  • Improving pipeline visibility, follow-up, reporting and commercial workflows.
  • Coordinating vendors, contractors and external advisers around agreed decisions.
  • Leading an operating initiative from scoping through implementation and handover.

From mandate to handover

We start with the business problem, the decisions I can own and the people responsible for delivery. I review the existing information and agree priorities, outputs and a starting baseline with you. During the engagement, we review progress and resolve decisions at an agreed cadence. At the end of the term, we assess the work against the mandate and agree continuation, internal ownership or a handover. The timetable is shaped around the engagement.

Currently recruiting an operating executive

If you are hiring a COO or VP of Operations, part of the work may need attention before the permanent appointment is made. We can discuss a focused bridge mandate, establish the operating structure or lead an initiative alongside your recruitment process.

When fractional fits

Fractional leadership works when the mandate is clear and your team can keep execution moving between my involvement. If the role requires continuous daily supervision or full-time coverage, we assess whether an interim or larger contract mandate provides the right coverage.

Engagements can be fractional, interim, project-based or contracted for a defined mandate. Scope, availability, duration and fees are agreed case by case.

Illustrative operating mandates

Examples of work we can scope together. The outputs depend on the agreed mandate and your existing team.

Build an operating plan your team can run

Align leadership priorities, responsibilities and the review process.

Potential outputs: A prioritized operating plan, named owners, reporting measures and a decision cadence.

Connect pipeline with delivery

Review how enquiries, follow-up, sales commitments and service delivery fit together.

Potential outputs: A mapped commercial workflow, pipeline definitions, follow-up responsibilities and management reporting.

Lead a defined operating initiative

Take responsibility for an agreed initiative alongside your existing managers and specialists.

Potential outputs: A scoped implementation plan, milestones, decisions and a documented handover.
